Elaine is a Human Resources (HR) Coordinator working in the transport and logistics sector.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Life in HR is different every day. My main duties would be processing payroll on a weekly and monthly basis, and my day-to-day work life covers colleague absence, aptitude testing, arranging interviews, and following-up on appraisals, as well as participating in disciplinary meetings and grievances and completing all general administration tasks.
What career journey have you been on to get where you are now?
I left school at 16 with no career path. I started working in a general office as an Office Junior, moving after one year to another office where I progressed to a Sales Supervisor. I was there for ten years. I then moved to a family-owned business and I spent 19 years as a Manager of a petrol station. I loved dealing with people. I started with DFDS Logistics in 2006 as a Receptionist and I moved into the role of HR Coordinator in 2016. I continue to work with people, which is something I really enjoy.
What excites you about your industry?
Logistics is very fast-moving and every day is different. It can be extremely challenging, but in a good way.
What advice would you give to your 13-year old self?
Try to do a job you enjoy because life flies by so quickly!
