Tell us more about you

I’m a keen footballer. I played for many years and support Spurs. I love to play golf and have been playing for a couple of years now.

What kind of work do you do?

Working in an office, my duties include answering emails and following up on new participants joining our training programmes. I’m responsible for uploading their information to the system used by the Department for Education to register them. I also help with the careers, employability, and personal development class in our Skills for Life and Work programme; helping students create CVs and finding work.

My job includes working in an office and a classroom. In both cases, I work as part of a team. I work closely with the admin staff for the Apprenticeship programmes and with the other Tutors in the Skills for Life and Work programme.

How did you become a Office Admin & Tutor?

I left school after my GCSEs and started an Apprenticeship to become an Electrician. At the time, there was a recession, and I was only nine months into my training when my employer didn’t have enough work to keep me on.

I found a job and completed a Level 2 in Office Admin while I was working. I then worked in retail for about 12 years. I heard there was a vacancy at 21 Training as an Office Admin and had heard great things about the company. I interviewed well, got the job, and haven’t looked back since.

I’m now working towards becoming a full time Tutor. 21 Training put me through my Assessor Award and are providing me with all the help and assistance I need to accomplish this.

What you do enjoy most about your job?

Having previously worked in retail, I really enjoy the holidays and weekends off that comes with working in an office. I also really like the staff and the company; they treat me well.

If you could do-over, What would you do differently?

I think I would have studied more and probably would have gone to university to get on to a career path a lot earlier.

What advice would you give someone starting out on their career jouney today?

Don't wait to start. If a course takes five years to complete, do it. Time goes quickly. Better to be working towards something and get qualified than to waste time.
